RSS Readers make you a better marketer – Top 5 reasons

Are you using an RSS reader?  If you want to be a successful internet marketer, than you should be.  Here are my top 5 reasons why I use an RSS reader:

  • Learning by doing – If you are new, there is no better way to learn how to become a successful marketer than by watching successful marketers.  You should be subscribing to as many RSS streams as you can.  Read, read, and read some more.  This will not only give you good ideas, but it will also help you learn what a good article/post should look like.
  • RSS readers save you time by not having to continually have to search the internet.  Find a good blog, subscribe and read.  Reading posts in an RSS reader also saves you time since only the meat and potatoes are downloaded instead of the whole web page.
  • Get the most up to date information.  Not only will you have the most recent blog posts at your finger tips, you can also subscribe to news about your market or chosen niche.  Just go to google news and narrow your search toward your niche and subscribe.  I get tons of ideas on what to blog about on my other blogs this way.
  • Find out what is hot.  If you venture over to some of the hottest social media web sites, you will find that most of them have pages showing the hottest tags, searches, subjects, etc…  You get the point.  If they have an RSS feed, subscribe.  Blogging about what is hot in your niche will give you a boost in the social networking arena…
  • RSS Readers help you promote your web site.  Sounds kind of strange?  Well, I use my reader (google reader) to promote many of my blogs.  I place my subscribed feeds in to niche categories.  Each category has a favorite blog folder which I read first.  Once I check the folder, I scan for topics which interest me and which I know that I can comment on.  I then click on the heading to open the post, and make my comments.  While making my comments, I leave a link back to my web page.  I get free, direct traffic this way and it also helps build back links.  You should try it.

If this didn’t persuade you to start using RSS readers, than I don’t know what will.

Tested 5 Fiverr Link Building Gigs

Have you ever heard of Fiverr?  I love this web site.  There are literaly thousands of people regestered here which will do almost everything for only Five Bucks.  All you have to do is go to the site, register, and search for what you want.  I often use it for logo design ideas, web site design ideas and web site promotion.  You wont find cheaper services anywhere on the net.  But, buyer be ware.  Cheap often means Cheap!

This time I tested three different link building services.  Here are the links to the gigs.

  1. I will submit your website to over 3,000 backlink sites and directories for $5
  2. I will submit Your Site To Over 660 Backlinks in Highly Trusted Sites in Just 30 Minutes. for $5
  3. I will give you 10 .edu backlinks+ bonus with report for $5

I provided each seller with a separate, distinct URL to promote and tracked the links through Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Here are the current results:

1.  I ordered my 3,000 backlinks on 12 May.  My order was completed on 18 May.  The seller provided a .jpg picture stating that this was proof that he performed the gig.  On the picture, you could recognize that he submitted 8 back links.  He was also incapable of submitting my full url, so he defaulted to the main domain.  None of the three search engines have found any of the backlinks as of yet.

2.  I ordered my 660 Backlinks on 12 May and it was completed on 19 May.  The seller provided me a .txt document showing all the confirmations from the sites which he submitted to.  He was also unsuccessful using the complete URL which I provided him.  I have not been able to positively find any of the links which he claims to have provided and the search engines show no additional links as well

3.  I ordered my 10 .edu backlinks on 20 May and it was completed the very next day.  The seller was professional and helpful.  He was capable of using my full URL unlike the other two Gigs.  The links are not the best quality, but I have seen all 10.  To date; 2 of the links have been picked up by the search engines.

If you are looking for backlinks, Fiverr may be the way to go.  Just be careful with your selection.  Agreed that Five Busk isn’t much to loose, but it still can be aggravating.

If you are looking for .edu backlinks, I suggest that you do use the service from #3 namitak007

How I Got 50k Visitors to My Blog in One Month

This is a guest post by Amber Shah.

I am in the process of launching my startup, Code Anthem, for great programmers and the companies that hire them. I was thinking over some of the logistics of running a private beta program and realized that I needed a group of people who could be my beta testers, early adopters and even evangelists when we launched.

I decided to start a blog and open a twitter account. That was 1 month ago, and since then I’ve had over 50K visitors to the blog, over 500 subscribers via RSS and email, 221 comments and over 150 Twitter followers. I didn’t have an existing audience of any kind to pull from, so this was all starting from zero.

The following is a short list of what made our blog grow in its first month:

1. Start a Movement, Pick a Fight

My husband and I had worked for years in the software development industry, so we had a lot of axes to grind, dirty laundry to air and big ideas to use as fodder for the content. My goal was to take a stand and go big or go home, so that readers would either rally around it immediately or hate it. My biggest fear was of people reading the blog and *yawn* moving on. On Let’s be Independent Together, I got this comment:

I got goosebumps at the end of that …
You guys are awesome, and I enjoy reading your blog entries very much, and look forward to seeing what your up to behind the curtain!
-TD

I was careful to strip out any ambivalent phrases like “I think that … “, “It seems to me that …”, or “Sometimes it may appear that …”, etc. Using them would whitewash my ideas. Leaving them out probably makes me appear more arrogant, but at least I’m having an impact on my readers.

2. Social Media and Social Proof

Social media is a big part of how Code Anthem’s blog was able to get so much traffic and subscribers early on. You can see in the screenshot below where our big spikes were and what social media site they were related to:

It wasn’t just the big social news sites driving traffic, a huge part of it was also Twitter and Facebook. My last post, “How to Keep Crappy Programmers” was tweeted over 200 times and shared on Facebook over 90 times. I also have a sidebar showing these stats and inviting readers to do the same, which keeps the momentum going.

3. Comments, comments everywhere and not a drop to drink

My first blog promotion strategy was to comment on blogs that had a similar audience to mine. I would only bother to comment if I was one of the first, and if I had something compelling to add. I wasn’t going for SEO points here; I was trying to get people to follow my link out of curiosity.

This accounted for the first 10 visits a day, or so, before my blog picked up in social media sites. I think that for any new site, especially ones that don’t work as well in social media, commenting early, often and with interesting insights on other blogs is the most effective tool to drive traffic.

Because there is so much advice out there on the right way to blog, and only so much time, it can be hard to figure out what to do. Here is a list of the things I did not do:

Respond to Every Comment or Tweet

The sentiment behind this idea is a good one but it doesn’t scale at all. I did this right at the very beginning, but as soon I couldn’t keep up. Sometimes I would think about responding, but if I waited, someone would come along and beat me to it. And what I realized was, that people started to have discussions and debates amongst themselves and that was priceless.

On a related note, if you get listed on a social media site: don’t go read the comments there. Somehow people feel that it’s ok to be much meaner when they post things not on your site. While many people were dismissive or nasty on external sites, comments on my own site were overwhelmingly positive and thoughtful.

Put up an About page, Contact page or other meta info

Between managing the blog and building the Code Anthem site itself, I never got around to putting up a bio and photo or a contact form. One reader called me out in the comments, saying:

I am enjoying the articles. However, the anonymity and the stealth-mode is a little weird. I think using real names would give your company and site a lot more personality.

And I think he’s right. The point is not “don’t do those things”, the point is just to prioritize on what makes the most sense for you, and realize that they aren’t necessary to having a successful blog, at first.

Talk about WHY I’m doing this

Meta blogging, aka blogging about blogging, is annoying (unless you happen to run a blog all about blogging *ahem* Remarkablogger). When I decided to share the story of my blog’s early success, in the hopes of helping other, I knew that I would not post it on Code Anthem’s blog, because the programmers who read it don’t care about blogging. Instaed, I asked Remarkablogger if I could guest post it here, and thankfully, Michael agreed.

I also did not talk much about my startup itself. Some company blogs talk about company-related things, like inventory or startup topics, but the audience for that is not my ideal customer. I’m sure I talk more about Code Anthem as we move into private beta and then public beta launch, but I hope to keep the blog focused on the ideas.

There are many different paths that lead to a successful blog. My best advice for other bloggers (and entrepreneurs) is to read and learn as much as possible, but to be very selective about what you actually implement. Be bold, confident and whatever you do, don’t look down.

Are You Still Festering Over Social Media Marketing?

If you’re still asking yourself why you need a social media marketing plan hopefully this will help you figure it out.  Below is a screenshot of a conversation that took place on Facebook recently, where someone was looking for a referral to a plumber:

Now, think about the fact that these conversations are taking place online every day and that if you had a credible presence in the social media world it would make it easier for your customers to refer you.  The lady making the referral should have been able to simply send a link to your Twitter or Facebook page where her friend could quickly connect to you.  If you had a social media marketing strategy you’d be part of the conversation instead of hoping people remember you.

Don’t let lack of diligence on your part be the reason you fail to take advantage of social media marketing.  Just do it!

The Marketing Makeover, How Successful Businesses are “Rebooting” their Marketing for Today’s Economy

The “Secret Sauce” in Relationship Marketing

I am frequently called on to speak about relationship marketing, and when I am people always ask to know the so called “secret” to building business through relationship marketing. I know there is no secret, but at one point I got asked the question so many times that I thought maybe I’m missing something, maybe there is a secret out here and I simply don’t know it. So I decided to begin a search for what people around me thought must exist which is the “Secret Sauce in relationship marketing”.

I started my search by studying people who most others considered to be successful business networkers and relationship marketers. I watched how they interacted with people at business networking events. I listened to what people had to say about them, especially as it related to how they treated the people around them. I spoke with them and had a chance to see what they had to say about people themselves, especially when those people were not present. I also watched the types of events they attended and asked them what they liked most about concentrating attention on relationship marketing.

What I found really won’t surprise most of us, but it may disappoint those who have convinced themselves that there must be some secret to making relationship marketing work. So, here’s what my little search revealed. People who are successful in relationship marketing do the following things very well:

1. They take a sincere interest in the people around them – At networking events true relationship marketers in attendance are there to take a sincere interest in others. That doesn’t mean they follow up with every person they meet, it simply means the ones they feel they can help will be a priority to help, and they let them know that. It also means they are good listeners, and when talking with others, their full attention is demonstrated by asking logical follow up questions about what they are being told, instead of just waiting for their turn to talk.

2. They operate with a servant’s heart – Successful relationship marketers are willing to give unconditionally without expecting an immediate quid-pro-quo return on their giving. They know how to plant seeds without expecting to harvest as they are planted. They trust that by helping enough people get what they want, abundance will be returned to them without their forcing the issue.

3. They are people of high self-esteem, not big ego – Successful relationship marketers feel good about who they are, and don’t require constant attention from others to validate themselves. This is important because it permits them to focus attention on others without feeling they are in competition for attention. Self-esteem, as contrasted with ego, is also demonstrated by how well they make the people around them feel about themselves, instead of trying to impress those people with their own accomplishments. They never find it necessary to build themselves up by putting others down. If they are great it’s because they make the people around them feel that they too are great.

4. They are actively involved in personal development activity – A commitment to personal development keeps the batteries of successful relationship marketers charged at all times against negativity. It also gives them superior insight into understanding the destructive interpersonal behaviors they see when they attend networking events or when meeting with people. This enables them to stay away from those behaviors.

5. They simply love people – Successful relationship marketers truly love people and finding ways to help them. They don’t do it just to make a living. They have chosen their living based on the ability to help people, not just the ability to generate income. Everything they do is centered around how it helps people. They are the kind of people who will prey with you not on you.

As I completed my search I found that these were all things I know, and all things that successful relationship marketers, have been doing for centuries, so in my opinion, none of these qualified as “secret sauce” for those who were searching for one. Then, I realized, after thinking about it, that maybe I had found the “secret sauce”, maybe there was an undiscovered truth that would qualify as a secret. For me, if there is a secret to relationship marketing it is this. Most people you meet won’t commit themselves to do any of these five things consistently, which means those that will immediately distinguish themselves from the crowd by doing them, and not just doing them, but making them part of who they are.

This revelation may not satisfy your hunger for “secret sauce” in relationship marketing, but if you are sincerely interested in success in relationship marketing it’s about what you are committed to do to make strong relationships a priority. The above five elements are a great place for you to start.

Blog Commenting – Drive traffic and earn back links

Blog Commenting is another great form of relationship marketing.  Commenting on blogs serves 2 purposes.

  • Commenting provides direct traffic
  • Commenting builds back links

Blog Commenting provides direct traffic

As with any relationship marketing strategy, if performed properly, your comments will provide you a great source of direct traffic.  By repeatedly adding valuable content to blog posts, other other people who comment and read the blog will start to notice you and will eventually click on your URL. Note:  Most blog software have a text box for your URL which shows up on your comment.  Readers who like (and often those who dislike) your comments will be compelled to click through to your web site.  This occurs mostly when you are active in the blog and comment on multiple posts.  I suggest you find a few blogs (3-5) which you are interested in and subscribe to their rss feed.  Than you will be notified of new posts which you can read and possibly leave a comment on.
This is not a overnight way of generating great bounds of traffic, but if performed properly, you will definitely notice an increase of traffic to your web site.

Blog Commenting builds back links

Proper blog commenting will also help build back links back to your web site.  It is true that many blog owners will delete a comment if they believe that the only reason for the comment is to build a back link, but if the comment adds value to their post, they normally will look the other way.
Most blog software allow you to place your name, url and comment in to the comment form.  If you place your keyword(s) in to the name block, it will automatically use that as the anchor text for your link back to your blog.

The “no-no’s” in blog commenting

Do not Mass Comment.  Mass commenting only makes you look like a spammer.  Leave a quality comment here and there just like any interested reader would.  Most mass commenters will find their comments in the trash.
Do not make the same comments around the blog-o-sphere.  Posting the same comment will get you noticed by the search engines which may end up getting you penalized.
Do not leave comments resembling “i agree” or “nice post”.  You will surly get deleted and probably reported as a spammer.
Do not be rude.  You may disagree with what the author wrote, but don’t be rude about it. Politely state your case like an adult!

Which sites should you leave comments on?

I follow 2 guidelines when choosing which blogs to comment on.

  1. Do I know the subject?  Comment about something that you know about.  Even if it is not directly related to your niche! (make sure that there is some type of connection).   If you know about what you are talking about, people will notice you and you will earn respect.
  2. Find high profile blogs.  You want to make sure that your comment is read (and your link is clicked on).  Find a blog which has a lot of readers and/or RSS subscribers.  This also helps with the search engines.  High profile blogs get indexed quicker.

My last tip is to download Comment Kahuna.  This 100% free software will help you find the high profile blogs which you should be commenting on.

Forum Marketing – an introduction

Forum Marking can be an easy way to bring additional visitors to your web sites as well as help you build a community of followers.

What is a Forum?

ForumMarketing-ForumBasically, a Forum is a site on the Internet where participants can post questions and answers in an organized manner.  Most forums focus on a niche having multiple categories which contain separate posts or topics.  I will be using marketingscoop.com, which is an Internet marketing forum, as an example throughout this entire blog post.

How will Forum Marketing help me?

When you become an active member in a forum, people start to know who you are and what you can do to help them.  Once you show that you can actually help them, they will become loyal to you.  Proper forum posts and replies will provide you with back-links to your websites which your loyal followers will click on.  Be aware though, that it takes time to build a loyal following using forums.  Like with any other form or relationship marketing, You must be able to continually provide the readers with valuable contributions.

Forum Marketing General instructions

The first thing which you should do is identify which forums you want to join.  Remember that I told you that building a community takes time?  You will want to limit the number of forums which you join initially.  I suggest that you do not join more than 3 in the initial stages.

You will need to find forums which compliment your product niche.  I spend a lot of time on Internet marketing forums, because most of my products are business to business products which Internet marketers need.  If you are selling dog collars, you should join dog or pet related forums.

There are a few ways to find related forums for marketing:

  1. Search through google with the following search – “your niche” + forum.  An example would be “Internet Marketing” + forum.
  2. Forum Hub sites – Search for niche keywords in Board Reader, Big Boards, and Board Tracker
  3. Things which you should pay close attention to
    1. Age of the Forum – You want to join a forum which has been around for a while.  New forums tend to die which means that your loyal followers will be lost
    2. Activity - You want to join an active forum.  Try to find forums with at least 10 to 15 new posts per day.  Take a look at the Active discussions or latest posts.
    3. Spam - Before joining a forum, read some of the posts and look to see if they are full of spam.  There are a lot of forums out there with no real benefit to the readers which the spammers use to just get back-links.
    4. Google PR – This isn’t quite as important as the other three criteria, but it is a good identifier if you have an authority form or not.  I use the SEO Quake firefox plug in to determine the PR.

Forum Registration

Once you have choosen which forum to join, you need to register to be able to post

Pay attention to the rules and policies of the Forum.  Some forums won’t allow you to use signature lines.  If this is the case, do not join this forum!

When regersting, I suggest that you use your real name.  The forum participants will be more receptive to people who seem real.  Having a user name like DogCollars is extremely impersonal.

Make sure that you verify your email before trying to post.

Edit your forum profile

Next, you should edit your forum profile.  There is noting worse than trying to communicate with someone who hasn’t updated their profile.  It looks real spammy.  Enter as much information into the profile page as you can.  Also, you should change your Avatar from the default to just about anything else.  People will remember your avatar before they remember your name!

You will need to enter a signature line.  This is a small bit of text about 3 lines where you can promote your web page.  NOTE: Some Forums will not allow you to enter URLs until you have posted X amount of times. No problem, once you reach that amount, you can edit your signature line then.  This signature line will come at the end of all of your posts or replies.  Alot of Forums use bulliten board scripting, so a link to your website would look like:

10 profitable membership ideas

Alright, you are all set to start posting.  I suggest that you locate the category for introductions and introduce yourself.  Do not self-promote here!  Introduce yourself by letting people know who you are and why you joined the forum.  Often times this will start a discussion of it’s own…

Now you should just spend some time reading other postings and replies.  Reply to the posts where you can contribute.  Dont try to sell here either.  Just be natural and try to help.

Lastly, stay clear of negative posts.  You don’t want your business associated with negative themes.  Also, these posts are only a waste of time for the people who are looking for assistance.

I hope you enjoyed our post on forum marketing.  If you have any additional forum marketing tips to exchange with us, please don’t be shy and post a comment.

Website Traffic Promotion

Website Traffic Promotion is the act of promoting your website in a way which drives traffic to it.

It is real obvious that in order to have a successful website, you have to be able to drive tons of traffic to your site.  You can’t wait months, weeks or even days.  You need website traffic now and every day in your future.

Website Traffic is the backbone to EVERY successful online business, the lifeblood to a successful campaign, the KEY ingredient to the recipe of success.

It doesn’t matter is you are promoting your own products or if you are using your website for affiliate promotions – Traffic is the one thing you website cant do without.

There are many ways to promote your website.  Some of the most well known methods are:

1. PPC (Pay per click) – Pay per click promotions allow you to place an ad on a site, and you pay when a viewer clicks through your ad to your site.

2.  Banner advertising – Either you pay to show your banner on other sites, or you can swap view for view.  This promotional method was successfully used in the beginning of the internet, but has died down lately.

3.  Classified listings – Paid or unpaid, Classified listings provide you with not only flow through traffic, but it also provides you back links.  There are many services available which will submit your ads to classified services for a fee.

4.  Posting in forums and blog comments – This will also provide you back links.

All of these website traffic promotion techniques will help drive traffic to your site, but the traffic will slow and short lived.  There are other, not frequently documented strategies which will bring floods of traffic to your web site.  Many of them wont cost you a penny.

But there’s something you need to know. For years, the “gurus” have lied, deceived and outright screwed us over by forcing watered down traffic strategies down our throats. Worse, they’ve literally tricked us into believing that the ONLY way to create cash sucking, server meltdown campaigns is by PAYING top dollar for every single lead!

Web traffic evolution has provided me with the inside secrets to Unlimited Traffic.  And since I believe in the product so much, I now advertise for them.  You have got to check them out.  If you want to learn the most successful website traffic promotion techniques,  than you must take a look at this web site
